At its September meeting, the Board of Directors approved the following:
Interim revision to the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, effective September 17, 2022. The Requirements are available under the “Currently in Effect” heading on the Program Requirements and FAQs and Applications page of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section of the ACGME website.
Major revision to the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Family Medicine, effective July 1, 2023. The Requirements are available under the “Future Effective Date” heading on the Program Requirements and FAQs and Applications page of Family Medicine section of the ACGME website.
Interim revision to the Common Program Requirements (Residency), Common Program Requirements (Fellowship), Common Program Requirements (One-Year Fellowship), and Common Program Requirements (Post-Doctoral Education Program), effective July 1, 2023. The Requirements are available under the “Future Effective Date” heading on the Common Program Requirements page of the ACGME website.

Call for Abstracts - Deadline Friday!
Showcase a research poster to more than 4,000 colleagues at the Annual Educational Conference! All accepted abstracts will be presented on site as posters at the conference. Graduate medical education (GME) community members are encouraged to use this opportunity to share their innovations and research with their peers. The ACGME encourages outcomes-based research and evaluation.

NEW! Conference Program Guide Now Available
The Annual Educational Conference Program Guide and the Schedule-At-A-Glance are available for review. In addition to inspiring content, the conference will provide opportunities for fun, relaxation, and knowledge exchanges outside of educational sessions.
The conference will offer a wide selection of options for both first-time and seasoned attendees. More than 100 innovative and diverse sessions will be presented by representatives of the ACGME and the GME community. With a variety of presentation formats, attendees can customize their schedules with their learning preferences and professional objectives in mind.

ACGME Seeks Resident Member
The following Review Committee seeks nominations for its next resident member. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that program. After review and consideration of all nominees, the Review Committee will forward its selection to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. This term begins July 1, 2023 and ends June 30, 2025.

ACGME Seeks Public Member
The following Review Committee seeks its next public member for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2023. Public members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Review Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. While nominees cannot be physicians, other health care professionals are permitted if they are not employed by an organization with ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship programs.

NEW! Deadline to Submit CLER Blackout Weeks is October 26, 2022
The window for submitting blackout weeks for CLER visits is open through October 26, 2022. Sponsoring Institutions can block off dates in the time highlighted below, and can submit up to four blackout weeks during this period.

Milestones Quality Assurance Survey
The ACGME has incorporated quality assurance as a part of the Milestones and requests participation in gathering feedback. This process will start with a five-minute survey for those actively involved in program leadership or serving as a member of their program's Clinical Competency Committee. Over the next few years, the ACGME will collect feedback about the new Milestones through a combination of focus groups and surveys.

Milestones Mid-Year Reporting Open October 31, 2022 until January 13, 2023
The reporting window will be open Monday, October 31, 2022 through Friday, January 13, 2023. Milestones assessments can be submitted via ADS at any point during this time. A list of specialties that have transitioned or soon will transition to Milestones 2.0 can be found on the Milestones page.

“We've Really Built Something”: Why Family Medicine Program Directors Stay in Their Positions—A Qualitative Study

Program directors are essential to the more than 12,000 residency and fellowship programs accredited in the US. Short program director tenure may affect overall program quality. In this qualitative study, the authors interviewed family medicine program directors in their roles for 12 or more years. They found that these program directors continuously work to develop the program, benefit from strong internal and external support systems, and describe many important rewards of the position that help sustain them in the role.

In this episode, Dr. Toren Davis shares his story of reclaiming the title of “Disruptive Physician.” His work to dismantle systemic racism and fight for equity in his health care system led him to write to the local newspaper, send letters to the Attorney General, organize signature campaigns and a town hall with community non-profit organizations, and more. Dr. Davis also suggests where physicians can start with their own advocacy work and how to build it into curriculum for learners.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Case Log Update
The Case Log Instructions: Maternal-Fetal Medicine document has been updated to reflect changes made to focus Case Log documentation on fellowship-level activities and improve the ease of logging. Fellows no longer need to log Cesarean hysterectomies, comorbidities, consults, deliveries, ongoing patient management, placenta accreta, and placenta previa. Case information now requires only a Case Date and Role. Case ID is optional. Fellows can "batch enter" ultrasounds.
One new category has been added. Fellows will start to document obstetric critical care activities as of October 1, 2022.
Programs are advised to review the updated resource on the Documents and Resources page of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section of the ACGME website. The "Common Questions" section includes guidance on logging ultrasounds and obstetric critical care experience.
